Re-starting my spending ban

As you all know, I started a spending ban. As you also probably know, I have been rubbish at sticking to it.

If I’m honest, I am really surprised at exactly how hard I found it. You’d think that not shopping would be easy, but the second you tell me not to do something, the second I want to do it even more.

This has resulted in two weeks of a lot of shopping. I’ve put up a couple of little hauls – one from a day out in Birmingham and another from the Pro Beauty show, and no doubt there are a few bits that have even been missed from these that I bought in my lunch breaks.

So I have decided to re-start my spending ban. This time it will run up until 20th March, as I will be attending the VitalityShow on 21st March, and having my birthday shortly after. I figure if I can’t make it 3 weeks without buying anything, I really do have a problem!

As an added incentive, here’s a photo of the stack of unused products in my bedroom...the shame...(there are also lots more in the boxes!)

I am hoping to make a big dent in these, plus cut down on spending on magazines, takeaway lunches and actually save some more money.

Sam from Pootles Papercrafts very kindly sent me a pocket size notebook set to keep track of my spending in, so I will be writing everything down for the next three weeks, even if it does mean recording a slip up.

I’ll need your encouragement, so please send me links to any spending ban updates you have, and wish me luck!

  1. Oh my goodness? How do you stop yourself just opening everything and giving everything a little try. If it was me and I had a box like that it would be torn open in a few minutes LOL!

  4. I think I will be going on a spending ban as well. I have been rubbish recently! You have so many unopened products, I have to open things the minute I get them.

  6. How these RT brushes are unopened are beyond me! ;) But seriously - I'll never judge. Besides, you went to a couple of events, so you actually SAVED some money in the sense you bought products on deals. Good luck from now on! X

  7. You can do it! It's definitely hard but once you put your mind into it, it really is an eye opening experience. I'm actually loving my spending ban even though once it's over on April 1st, I will be buying a few things! Good luck :)

  11. I know the feeling. I started the ban at the start of the year and I finish end of April but it is so hard. I think I've broken mine about 3/4 times but one of the times I took the items back after. It's like I've got no will power even though I've got an amazing reward at the end of it. :(

Wishing you loads of luck though. Hope you can do better than I am.

  15. I definitely think it helps keeping a note of your spending - although I did have a few slip ups this week. I am also recording my "wants" at the opposite end of my journal so at the end of my ban I can go back and see what I still really "want" x
