My body history has been a varied one. Over the past 12 years I've been everything from a size 8 to a size 16. I've gone from one extreme to another - eating everything I want and barely eating anything at all. At the moment I'm somewhere in the middle.
I'm going to be completely honest here (as much as it pains me). I'm 5ft 5, dead on ten stone and a size 12 (pushing towards a 14 on the bottom half). I'm aware that this isn't 'fat', but for me it's not comfortable. My clothes are tight, and I have no muscle tone. For me, whilst my weight plays a part of how I feel about my body, the real issue is that I feel untoned, squishy and generally a bit blah.
I'm no good with diets. The second I feel like I'm restricting what goes in my mouth, I immediately want to eat more of it and anything else that catches my eye. However, I know I can't keep going on the same way I am.
I'm making a commitment to myself to be more healthy. I've been thinking about how I'm going to achieve this and have come up with some 'rules' I'm going to follow. I hope you won't mind the occasional post about my healthy eating journey. Not only will it help keep me in check, but I bet you all have some great tips you have to help keep me motivated! Please share :)
My 'rules':
1. Eat more vegetables
2. Up the amount of protein I eat to help keep me feeling full.
3. Try a new food each week - this will help me stop getting bored.
4. Remember - cake is not a food group.
5. Treats are called treats for a reason. See point 4.
6. Walk more - stop being a lazy so and so by getting the bus every morning and walk a few times a week to work.
7. Be more prepared - if I take food into work, it will stop me buying whatever I fancy on the day (usually a sandwich and crisps!).
8. Don't forget to eat good fats - nuts, seeds, avocados etc.
Have you got any tips you can share with me?
I have a very similar body shape, I'm 5ft4, 12-14 and 10 stone. I agree that I'm not 'comfortable' with my body. Perhaps we should spur each other on with healthy eating, share tips? Tweet me @cherriesbeauty :)
ReplyDeletethat would be great, thank you - i will pop you a tweet xx
DeleteSame here although I'm a bit tallier than you but even though I go to the gym I'm just not comfortable in myself.
ReplyDeleteit's a struggle - we can all help keep each other motivated! x
DeleteI try to keep unhealthy foods out of my draw at work, that way if i get bored i dont just end up eating chocolate.
ReplyDeleteGood luck!

good tip :) My work drawer is like an evil chocolate stash - need to have a clear out! x
DeleteI think if you just commit to eating clean and making food yourself instead of buying lunch (and morning latte's) it makes all the difference! I've found it super helpful!
ReplyDeleteI'm going to make a big effort to bring lunch to work. Then i also get more money for new makeup ;) x
DeleteI have lost 5 stone so far (I really was overweight though) and I found that only when I combined excercise, mainly running 3 times a week or more, with eating well, did the weight come off. Though as you're looking to tone up you probably don't need to do heavy cardio like I did.

that's amazing! Well done. I need to take a leaf out of your book x
DeleteI was on a trip to London recently & gained a few pounds as I ate ALOT! Need to start working out soon. :) Thanks for the tips.
ReplyDeleteno problem - London is such an easy place to feast on all sorts of things x
DeleteWater! Trying to drink more water and less drinks with sugar in is always more helpful than we realise. Water is quite filling and it makes you Feel so much better inside, whilst helping keep your body flushed out and helping with your skin.
ReplyDeleteThink the post idea is fantastic. It's such a shame that we all feel we're not supposed to say we're unhappy with our bodies if we're not massive - There's nothing wrong, at all, with wanting to improve yourself as long as it's healthy and for the right reasons which yours obviously is :D
Before I had my son, and before my health got as bad as it is now, I was very slim and very very toned - cropped tops were my friend, used to get complimented on my tummy on nights out. I'm actually happier with my body now, overall, because I realise how lucky I am that it didn't take me Masses of work to loose the baby weight etc. I'm a little bigger and squishier than I want to be, and my health restricts the amount of exercise I can now do, but I do try to keep on top of it by reducing the treats when I feel bigger than normal.
Walking really is a fantastic exercise, that was the main thing for me back when I could actually manage to walk a few miles a day.
The most important thing is to make it something you can maintain - Don't cut out All snacks because if you do, you'll loose weight but put it back on when you eat them again. Tis all about balance
(I'm talking a lot, I know, I'm no professional but I've had eating disorders, I've been bigger, I've been smaller and I'm finally quite content with myself - Lots of experience heh)
thank you - this is all so helpful. It's great to hear that you're content now. Am hoping to get there myself x
DeleteOMG reading this was like reading about me! i've put on weight recently and i kno i need to get back to the gym or do some form of exercise. as soon as i don't exercise i just balloon. literally. it's finding that motivation tho! so hard! we've had like the longest winter ever and when i get home from work all i wanna do is cook hearty stews and things with rice or potatoes. the idea of a salad makes my stomach turn. i must face the reality soon tho as i don't want to end up where i've been before xxx
ReplyDeleteFinding motivation is really hard. When the weather is cold carbs just taste so good! x
DeleteI try not to match my husband and eat like a man, thats kicked started well. Drinking more and I've found myfitnesspal app great for keeping track of whats going in. I'm veggie who also eats fish so I eat a lot of pulses which can be filling :) xx
ReplyDeletepulses are an excellent tip - they're really filling. Need to eat more of them. x
DeleteI've been feeling exactly the same, since I hit my 30s and have had 8 years sat at a desk I've started to notice my middle has grown considerably. I'm currently trying to cut out daily lattes and snacks at my desk to see if they help. Though I'm sure more exercise would be a good idea too!
ReplyDeleteGood luck with your goals :)
I sit at a desk too and find it really difficult not to snack. I'm filling my drawer with lots of healthy things so if i do get peckish at least it;s not on biscuits x
DeleteI'm on a bit of a health kick too at the minute, really need to drink more water
ReplyDeleteA little bit Unique
x
water is always good :)
Deleteawh good luck girly! I feel the same as you right now. Once you say 'i'm on a diet' or i'm not eating....' it just makes you want it all the time. So i'm just saying i'm gonna try and be healthier, not cut out things but cut down on cake/chocolates and be more active. i went for a jog yesterday and i'm going to walk back from uni more often and get off a couple of bus stops before my stop i think! every little helps :) I hope you get on well with your commitments! :)
